REEBOK, AIRBUS BRING THE GYM TO THE SKIES

We get it—everyone wants to sit back and relax every once in a while. But what about when you’re on an airplane and your destination is hours away?

Suddenly, sitting seems like the last thing you feel like doing.

What if on your next flight you could get in a workout instead of staying planted in your seat?

This is the exact concept that innovators at Airbus’ Silicon Valley outpost, A3, are working to bring to life with the help of Reebok. The project itself, known as Transpose, will utilize groundbreaking modular cabins to create experiences that passengers can partake in while in flight, including spas, cafes, and yes, gyms.

Imagine this: Instead of having to awkwardly angle your knees to not bump the seat in front of you, you’re up and moving, fully extending those knees into a lunge amid the plane’s onboard gym.

Hours of sedentary binge watching will become a thing of the past, as passengers are free to move around the cabin and get their hearts pumping.

While this gym isn’t in the skies just yet, for all those who will be flying out of San Jose International Airport during the month of May, you’ll be able to experience the concept sooner than you think.

A full-size module cabin gym is in Gate 18 and airport goers are welcome to check out the Transpose project firsthand.

Won’t be in San Jose to see the future of flight up close? Don’t stress; we’ve got the next best thing!

Since this groundbreaking innovation is still in development, that means you’re still stuck sitting on your next flight ... at least for now. With that in mind, Reebok trainer Emily Schromm has broken down her favorite exercises and stretches to do before boarding a plane.

As an in-demand trainer with a hectic travel schedule, Schromm is no stranger to travel-related soreness, constantly working to stay pain-free while flying from city to city.

Her suggested exercises focus on loosening the hips and back, two of the most common trouble areas when it comes to stiffness caused by travel.

Watch the video above and give these exercises a go before your next big flight.
